Use our model portfolios to help you get started
Different investors will be looking for different things. One advantage of selecting and managing your own investments is that you can tailor to fit your personal aims, objectives and attitude to risk and these model portfolios can help you get started.
Please bear in mind that:Before deciding on the mix of asset classes that might give you what you want, you need to decide what that is. Are you investing for growth, accepting that the higher level of growth you seek, the higher the risk of losses, looking to your investments to produce an income, or seeking a balance between the two, thereby reducing the risk of loss by investing a greater proportion into lower-risk investments?
Three model portfolios are shown below – Income, Growth and Balanced. They have been developed by APCIMS in conjunction with FTSE and are reviewed and updated regularly. Remember, each portfolio is constructed only as a guide and will not reflect your attitude to risk or the timescale over which you are looking to invest. If you’re not sure what’s right for you we'd recommend you seek independent financial advice.
Each model portfolio suggests the percentage of investments you might hold in each of six asset classes: Cash; Bonds (including Gilts); UK shares; International shares; Hedge Funds.
Clicking on each of the segments brings you information about that asset class. Typically, hedge funds are not accessible to the retail investor so for this asset class we’ll show you details of Hedge Fund investments that can be accessed indirectly, via a Managed Fund.
The Income portfolio is for those seeking a steady income from their investments.
